#15 - 1976 Camaro
1988-1989
My 4th vehicle. This is probably the most dangerous car I’ve ever owned. Not because it was fast but because it was slow as fuck. Six-cylinder w/ an automatic. I bought it from my sister, who crashed it twice before I got it. The exhaust would leak in from the trunk somehow & put you to sleep “carbon monoxide poison”. I just thought she probably partied to much & couldn’t stay awake lol! It was a real pile of shit but got me to the parties. It was always coming home that was the real bitch… we would always go north to Payson or Camp Verde because the girls were wild, easy & liked to get real fucked up. Brian Kennison & I were coming home from Camp Verde one-time cruising through Phoenix about 70 MPH against the k-rail, sparks flying like 4th of July off the side of the car and didn’t realize it until we both woke up. Another time coming home from Payson he begged me to not drive home, but I had to, didn’t want to get in trouble. Naturally I fell asleep coming down beeline, hit a sign on the left, and flew off the road just missing trees & cactus. He was pissed but my tires still had air in them. One of my favorite trips was going tubing at the cinder pits in Strawberry. We partied all day, well except Brian, he was pretty sick and stayed in the car all day. There was 5 of us in the Camaro & everyone was hammered. It was snowing & the road was icy. We followed a snowplow until someone said to pass it and you know me, I loved a challenge. Brian was mad as hell and then we deiced it would be fun to do a 360 at 50 MPH going down the highway, we pulled it off. Then we realized we were out of beer. When coming out of the store, the sheriff was there to greet us, explaining how he had reports of reckless driving. I assured him it was to icy and that I would be more careful as Brian kept saying arrest him… I promised him I would go to my grandmas down the road and not leave until morning. Grandma was happy to see me & made us all dinner, but she was worried about Brian. She asked me if he had been drinking and I told her yes, and that I would keep an eye on him. We left to head back home that night and prayed we wouldn’t run into the sheriff. My last trip in the Camaro was skiing in the White Mountains w/ friends. It was a wild trip at the police station but had a good time. I traded the Camaro for the 72 Chevy Long bed, something the law wouldn’t recognize.
