#14 - 1972 Long Bed Chevy Truck
1988 - 1989/ 1972 2nd Long Bed Chevy Truck
After trading my 1976 Camaro for the 72 Chevy long bed this would be the 1st truck that I built, nothing special but started from the bottom & worked my way up. It had a small block 350 & a Turbo 350. I remember working on it in my dad’s back yard under the pecan tree doing body work for the first time, well that’s not true actually the first time I was probably 16yrs old, we borrowed Dereck Leggett’s moms Rabbit Cabriolet that she forgot to leave the keys for. It was ok because we learned how to hot wire lol, but after putting several hundred miles on it, it had minor fender benders and hit & runs. Tim Williams & I proceeded to fix it but forgot to fix under the hood & later got caught. It was a real learning experience, definitely got better at it & he still does paint & body to this day. Anyway, back to the truck, so after finishing all the body work & everything else my dad took me to central truck where he worked & showed me how to paint, which became a source of side money for quite some time doing hot rods & everything. It was the nicest thing I had ever owned at the time. I was proud of it & later built several trucks. I loved going hunting & fishing in it & eventually put a sleeper on it which became very handy for a horny young man, if you know what I mean. I remember going to San Carlos Indian res late one-night w/ Tammy & Brian Kennison to go fishing. It rained all the way there & anyone who’s been there knows how shitty it can get. After several beverages I slid off the muddy road & got stuck “Damn 2WD”. Brian got out & started jumping up & down in the bed as I went forward & reverse, finally making it back onto the road but he had flown out the back of the truck & landed flat on his back in the mud. He was pissed, especially when I told him he was to muddy to get in so, he stripped his clothes off. After making it to our destination, Gimme Tank, we were hammered & there was a foot of snow so, we went to sleep. Brian in the front seat and Tammy & I in the sleeper. I’ve never been told no so many times in my life. Just because they call it a sleeper doesn’t mean you have to sleep in it lol. She was a good truck and lots of fun. Sweet dreams Brian.
