#11 - 2001 Single Seat Super Modified

Most all of our cars were leaf sprung with ¼ elliptical and drove really well, but I figured I could have better approach angles without leafs and I like simple. I thought Ford radius arms would be nice with coil overs, which I knew nothing about. It had one seat with an offset cage, 180-degree headers that ran down the passenger side, visibility was even better. The first trip to Florence was a disaster, it drove like SHIT! I had Bailey on my lap, and I asked Kerry to drive it and jumped in my two-seater he was driving. Brett called me a pussy telling me how to drive, he wouldn’t let up. I said “ya, show me fuck head” He got in and held it to the wood until it shifted into 2nd!! I watched him barrel roll my brand-new car, “fuckin idiot”. We finally figured out the coil overs in time for the final event, ARCA in Farmington, NM 2001, Finishing 2nd in the series, then starting out 2002 in Farmington with a new sponsor, “Summit Racing”. March 15, 2002 was soon to be the worst day of my life after rolling on obstacle A-4 and trying to upright the vehicle driving it on its side. I slammed a rock half the size of my car on to my dad as he and Doug turned to walk away, crushing both of his legs! I was unaware and kept hammering the throttle! Moose flies out of nowhere, lands on my car and shuts it off, I was like WTF, he said just get out of the car and when I did, I saw what had happened. He reacted quickly by removing someone’s tailgate off a brand-new truck to use for a stretcher, they weren’t too happy but he didn’t care!! They air lifted him to the hospital in Farmington, then the next day to Scottsdale. I remember him saying “I’ll be ok, finish this shit!”. He is one tough SOB, after multiple surgeries trying to save his leg, he finally told them “it stinks of gangrene, cut it off!”. They kept beating around the bush afraid to tell him, he wished they would have taken both! He says it still bothers him today. The year wasn’t even over and he was back out watching us compete in Cedar City. This was also a fun machine, but it was time to try something new, “PSYCHO BILLY CADILLAC”
